We spent a night at Tala Collection Game Reserve at the Leadwood Lodge and we were nothing short of blown away. From the animals we saw, to the beauty of the cottage, we were very lucky to have experienced our time there.
At the end of last year I won a competition through Kierran Allen Photography and Bee Africa Travel. The prize was a one night stay at the Tala Collection Game Reserve Leadwood Lodge for myself and one other person. Due to Covid restrictions we were only able to make use of the prize this last weekend, and what was even better is that I woke up on my birthday in the beautiful luxury cottage.
When we arrived we were welcomed by the most friendly staff who secured the most amazing cottage for us overlooking our own personal dam. I would definitely say that this was by far the best cottage at the whole lodge.
After unpacking we took a slow drive around the reserve not expecting to see much due to the weather but we were proven wrong by the amound of game that was out grazing and showing off all of their beauty. This included a heard of thirteen Giraffe, seven Rhino, lots of Zebra, a family of Warthog, Wildebeest Buck, but no Hippo.
We made our way back to our lodge and after cracking a beautiful bottle of champagne we were met by a lone Giraffe coming to have a look at what we were up to. He was absolutely STUNNING and he hovered around for ages while we sat in awe starting at him. Words are never enough to express this feeling.
Once he moved on, we headed up to the main lodge where we had an delicious dinner and were served by extremely friendly and humorous staff. There was plenty to choose from on the menu and it all looked incredible.
Waking up the next morning, it now being my birthday, I was determined to spot a Hippo. The day began with a Giraffe fight where the males were swinging their necks and bashing their heads into each other, something I have never seen before. It was extremely fascinating to watch such large animals use so much strength to gain dominance over each other. We were joined by family members and spent the morning tracking down all the animals and watching them for a few hours. (Still no Hippo).
When it was time to finally leave, we took one last look over the dam and were so excited to see the Hippos popping their heads up from under the water as if to say a little goodbye to make my birthday even better.
Thank you so much to Tala Collection Game Reserve for having us and we so look forward to returning again!
